It is based on the findings of a study of college applicants to 12 highly selective colleges: the Ivy League (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale), plus Duke, M.I.T., the University of Chicago and Stanford. The anonymous data is from the years 1999 to 2015.
